College begins

# Admission process over and college journey begins
# Achieved CSE at NITK

It's been almost five days in the college hostel now. I have made myself quite comfortable here. Living here has made me realize my responsibilities and developed a sense of maturity in me.
So, in these five days, I have explored much of the campus and I must say that it's a beautiful place. The college curriculum is yet to start. Here, there is an induction program organised for the first year Btech students. It basically aims at improving your public speaking skills, making connections with others, art of living and at many other basics of life. It's a fun attending all these induction sessions.
Here at NITK, there is a diverse crowd not only from different parts of the country but also from different parts of the world. Here, I have noticed a helping culture amongst the students. I must say that seniors are very helpful from the first day itself and friendly too.
For the next four years, I'm going to be a part of this great college. As every other student, I look towards excelling in academics and also take part in the co-curricular activities available here. In these four years, I aim at maintaining my enthusiasm and enjoying the course .

College Admissions

#12th standard is over and heading towards Graduation

So...finally after three years , I have started writing my blogs again. Last few years were quite demanding from me .Nevertheless , there was always an enjoyment factor in what I did. Let me make it clear, I was preparing for IIT JEE entrance exam during these years.I joined MPA(in Pune) in 8th standard were I was introduced to higher level mathematics and science. I started enjoying learning new concepts and applying them. Till 10th standard there was no time constraint on your thinking and I loved doing higher level mathematics. In 11th and 12th , I was introduce to the concept of TIME and ACCURACY (both going hand in hand). Of course , that is not a problem if you enjoy it.

Currently, I am in the JOSAA admission process and quite confused that what am I going to do in the future . Unlike other students, I have not given weightage to any particular college or branch. No doubt everyone wants see himself/herself at a respectable position in the future. I also had an option of pursuing a career in pure science but preferred engineering over it. At this stage , I am quite unaware of the kind of work both the options include(technically).

Some of my friends are pursuing their careers in Hotel Management, Mass Media and BBA. I guess, they have a vision of their future life which I seem to lac a bit . At the moment, I only understand that IIT is the goal and since I don't have any preference to any branch ,I believe that I can find enjoyment in whichever branch I go. And if not , I hope I would by then.

These days I go with my mom frequently for shopping and buying household goods. All this makes me realise that living alone is not going to be easy. I always get advice from my mom regarding disciplined living. We have made a list of items that I am going to need in the hostel and buying them accordingly. So whichever college from my "JOSAA preference list" I get , I am ready.
I hope I maintain my enthusiasm irrespective of odds I face during the next 4 years .

FICTION

  Book Review

CARRY ON JEEVES - BY P.G. WODEHOUSE

'Carry on Jeeves' is an episode wise collection of stories by P.G. Wodehouse. This book is one of the 'Jeeves and Wooster collection'. In this book, each chapter deals with a different story. The two main characters of the book are Bertie Wooster and Reginald Jeeves.Reginald Jeeves throughout the book is called as 'Jeeves'.Story is such that Jeeves is Bertie's valet and in each chapter , Jeeves is shown helping others with his intelligence. The book  has ten chapters in all with Bertie ,as the narrator for the first nine chapters and Jeeves ,for tenth.
Bertie Wooster is an englishman living with his valet ,Jeeves.Jeeves is a highly intelligent personality who believes in loyalty towards his master.Bertie is shown to be dependent on Jeeves for all his problems. Whatever be the problem ,it cannot escape from Jeeves' solution. At many instants of time ,Jeeves is shown helping Bertie and his friends.
The book starts on the note taking for granted as if the reader is aware of the situation .After having look at the first fifteen pages, you come to know- who is Bertie and who is Jeeves. In the rest of the part, as a new character is added, say for example-Bertie's friend. The narrator has properly described him,so as the reader reads, he/she understands that how close is he to him and so on.
About the characters ,it is seen that Bertie is one of the jolly ones living his life great. Bertie has a helping nature and is shown helping his friends at many instants.Well ,some part of it is true that he knew whatever may be the problem , it cannot pertain under Jeeves' guidance.About Jeeves, he is a very calm personality. He takes care of Bertie as if he being a kid. He considers Bertie's problems as his problems. At some point ,Bertie also says that if had half the brain ,Jeeves is having ,he would have been the president of the country!
About the vocabulary ,some part of  the conversation is difficult to digest .The author,in the book, has used very sophisticated words, to sometimes describe a person or a situation. For example, one of the phrases you see is 'by Jove'.This phrase has different meanings at different instants. But, in any case ,meaning can be configured. In the book ,Jeeves is many-a-times shown referring to a person by 'His Grace'. Generally, the term is used to describe to describe a person of high post.
The book is funny at some parts ,but compiling everything ,it is a mixture of thrill ,suspense and  humourous upto some extent.Well ,these features are the ones which increases the fun in any fictitious book.A perfect book for a fiction-loving person!!

Fun for whom?

                                            Fun !

It is about 7:30pm, when me and my friends where playing downstairs. It was a saturday evening. My mother and all other aunties gather near the Mandir to chat with each other. We were playing 'hide and seek',when I realized that it was to be 8:30pm and time to go home.Me and my friends were quite afraid if something is not planned quickly, then our Mom will take us back home. If you see, any child or a teenager has a human tendency that "I have to play more" and we generally make an excuse that "5 minutes Mom" or "10 minutes Mom".But to our bad luck, this excuse would not come into being for the 4th time in a week.At this moment,we were like melting butter being  kept on flaming heat. Our society was too small to hide from our mothers.
Suddenly,I got an idea. We ,in our society have a cabin on the top of the society terrace, where even a cleaner goes once in two weeks. We decided to go there without wasting a second. On entering the cabin, we noticed that the tube light fluctuating and was not working properly. Being here,we noticed that none of them had carried their mobile phones. We were like 'yes',now even if our Moms want to find us,they can simply call us.The fluctuating bulb made us realize the horror scenes,we have ever seen in the horror movies.Whether you believe or not,but all of a sudden ,we heard sound 'wooooof' , the sound of a hungry dog which is generally used in horror movies to produce a realistic effect.
We all got scared and ran out of the place with the fastest we could. Then, we decided to hide in the 'fire exit' of the 7th floor as no one of us was having his/her home on this floor. It was then 9:15pm.
If you see, this was an 'indirect hide and seek game'.It was fun in itself.
Now,the question arose that till what time will we stay here.We started discussing ,cracking jokes, etc.,which brought a glory to our little fun. By then,it approached to 9:45pm.We all thinking of an excuse went downstairs. To our astonishment, our mothers were still chating. Like a news reporter ,we asked a straight forward-'Did you all searched for us?' and the answer was-'No.why would we search you all?' We all, in a chorus were like 'forget it'.
And finally the result was that we were the one who took our mothers home.

IS MATHEMATICS TOUGH?

                                                                   Mathematics
By Ameya Deshpande

Today I am going to introduce a subject without which we can't live.Quite weird to say  but it is mathematics. So, while introducing a topic,we generally ask a question to ourselves-What is Mathematics? Why is it so important in our day-to-day life? One may  have different answers to these questions.According to me, mathematics is the study of   counting numbers ,shape and structure.Mathematics is defined from undefined things. We use  mathematics in our day-to-day life. For example- for counting number of persons,   object, etc(basic counting numbers).Well,I do love Maths and look towards it as fun.People , just looking at a problem without reading it, declare that maths is tough.I accept that few problems are a bit difficult but we should accept it as a challenge and try to tackle with it.This is  fun in maths. Without spending enough time on it, we should not give up.Now the question arises-How to solve difficult questions in Examinations?A simple trick is to look the question from a different type of view. For example-in mathematical calculations,we do grouping of some terms to get a simplified answer or in a school geometry problem,we many times go some backward steps from the result to be proved to get a result that can be reached very easily.

I would like to share a problem that I face many a times while giving any examination . During examination, I usually become nervous and in tension ,cannot think on the          question. Particularly, in mathematics, you cannot think on the question due to your          tension. Maths is a subject which requires on the spot thinking ability and if you become nervous ,then the exam is.......(you know it).

I know that the question , some of them might not be able to solve it in their exams but you should not give up and should try it even after the exam is over. After you get the solution, you should see that- Where was I wrong? Why couldn't I solve it in exam? Was it so difficult? If such type of problem arises again, then will I be able to solve it?
When you get free time ,you must think on maths like What is it?If I feel it difficult, then why do I feel it so?Why can't I think in simple manner? Why do I forget that Maths is a natural subject which is not made or created by someone ?
I hope that after reading the above ,you look Maths from a different point of view.

A Gift To Yourself

                         Afforestation - a powerful tool

By Ameya Deshpande

In the year 2010,many trees were being cut on the hill beside Pune-Mumbai Highway. The cutting down of trees was carried for making a road on it.Daily people who used to climb up the hill were very disappointed by this work.It destroyed the habitats for many plants and birds living on it.
But in 2012,a number of senior citizens took an initiative of growing the greenery back on the hill.
They formed a group which is now being popularly known Vasundara Group. The group, with the
help of government nurseries started planting trees.Government helped them in providing water to the plants and trees along the road which was recently created.Every morning, a number of people
go there for watering the plants.Seeing the active enrollment of the citizens, the government constructed about 10-15 tanks on the hill which gets water directly from Municipal Corporation. All these efforts have resulted in bringing back the greenery of the hill and inspired many people to grow more and more trees.

"Everyone living on the  planet Earth should take part in preserving the nature and growing more
and more trees."
